Mike Winder’s Bio

Michael Kent Winder was elected mayor of West Valley City, Utah’s second-largest city, on November 4, 2009.  He is president of the Utah League of Cities and Towns, vice president of the Salt Lake Valley Conference of Mayors.  He is a member of the Utah Republican Party State Central Committee, the Salt Lake chamber’s Capitol Club and the executive committee of the Economic Development Corporation of Utah.

An historian, Mike is the author of nine published books on Utah history and the American presidency, including Presidents and Prophets, a regional bestseller.  When the White House Comes to Zion, was published in October 2011 and provides an entertaining look at presidential visits to the Beehive State.

He has presented academic papers as part of the Abraham Lincoln Sesquicentennial and has been published in the Theodore Roosevelt Association Journal.  He was twice appointed to the Utah Board of State History by Governor Jon Huntsman, Jr. and is a member of the Mormon History Association, Ronald Reagan Club, and Center for the Study of the Presidency.

Mike holds a Master in Business Administration and an Honors B.A. degree in History from the University of Utah.  He and his wife, Karyn Hermansen Winder are the parents of two girls and two boys.
