In 2000, no one would ever have guesssed that by 2012, Colorado would be considered a blue state. They would have told you that it couldn’t happen there.  Yet, in 2004, a group of wealthy progressive Democrats gathered together to actively change the narrative in Colorado politics.  With lots of money and leveraging 527 entities, these progressives were successful in changing the outcome of formerly GOP dominated races.  They were so successful in their efforts in Colorado, they began their efforts to change the colors of other states- and Utah is one of their targets. The story on how this was done is documented in the book, “The Blueprint: How the Democrats Won Colorado (and why Republicans everywhere should care)” by Rob Witwer and Adam Schrager.

How did they do it? They did it by being very strategic with their capital- both monetary and human. They made non-issues the main issue and attacked their opponents with a force they never expected.  They cloaked their activities through creating 501(c)(4) and 527 organizations. They started with municipal races and worked their way up to the Governor’s mansion. They orchestrated their plan and caught the GOP off-guard. Many candidates did not realize what was happening until it was too late.

This summer, Utah State Democrat Party Chair Jim Dibakis met with Democrat leaders and activitists in Park City to continue in Utah what was started in Colorado. After you read the book, and analyze recent election results, you’ll see that The Blueprint has already been at work here in our state.

Do yourself a favor and you read this book…NOW.  You’ll be better prepared to support our conservative candidates in the upcoming municipal elections in November 2013. And you can spread the word about The Blueprint to all your friends and neighbors. We can’t let happen Colorado to happen in Utah.
